This weekend, Virginia Tech’s baseball team is heading to South Bend, Indiana for a pivotal ACC road series matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This series begins Friday, April 4th at 4:30 p.m. at Jack Kline Field at Frank Eck Stadium.

The Virginia Tech Hokies are looking to come back from a 1-8 loss against Radford University this week but hopefully are able to bring the momentum from their two consecutive ACC series wins against ranked opponents.

Despite the setback against Radford, Virginia Tech has shown impressive offensive and pitching depth throughout the season. Friday’s opener will be crucial, not only for getting ahead in this three-game series, but also for gaining confidence in road games as the Hokies seem to be still working to build that.

Notre Dame baseball currently has a 14-12 record and has had quite an up and down season. Last weekend they really proved their potential by beating Florida State University in a series. They even had a 16-9 victory in one of the three games. While the Irish have been inconsistent, they have proven that they can still be strong competitors against tough teams when they are having a good day. With this series being on their home turf, they will be looking to keep up the momentum and start their climb up from the bottom in ACC standings.

Key factors for this series include Virginia Tech being able to shake off the tough loss against Radford and capitalize on their scoring opportunities early. For Notre Dame, the challenge will be to maintain consistency both on the mound and in the field, which has been trouble areas and cost them previous games.

Game two is scheduled for Saturday, April 5th at 2 p.m. EST at Jack Kline Field at Frank Eck Stadium. The final game in the series is scheduled for Sunday, April 6th at 1 p.m. EST in the same location. With both teams having their eyes on the postseason, this will be a very competitive conference matchup to see.
